/  A Meaningful Connection

 

Deep within many of us, as discussed, we often have an innate desire to discover our "soul mate" or "true love." It's someone with whom we can share a loving, supportive, and loyal partnership—someone we can count on in times of need in the long-run. In essence, it's a person who offers us lasting unconditional love, security, and trusted companionship. And, a FHIT long-term relationship has the ability to provide just that!

 

Yet, as we mature, it's important to soon realize our "soul mate" is not necessarily a person, but a set of personal core-values. When we meet a person with whom we share a mutual attraction, finding whether they're "right for us" is dependent upon whether we both share constructive core values and are willing to offer each other the security and love we desire through those values.

 

Interestingly, this innate "soul mate" phenomenon is an integral part of who we are while growing up into adulthood. It's part of a healthy self-discovery process. This thinking can actually contribute longevity to our relationships if we apply this "soul mate" idea to the person we thoughtfully "choose" to build a life with. We can then, more effectively, develop an emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical bond that can last a lifetime.

Selflessness and thoughtfulness are two important characteristics that can help to develop a deeper bond, a more intense love, and a shared meaningful purpose. The more we're engaged in shared meaning, the greater our capacity for a meaningful relationship; thus, we can develop the ability for long-term success. This is key to relationship longevity and prosperity.

We've all heard the saying: If it's not difficult, it's not worth it. Many of us desire a "soul mate" connection immediately, but it typically occurs over years of struggle and accomplishment in a joint commitment. The life-challenges we overcome, with our partner, can often deepen into a meaningful bond that is unbreakable. This occurs through a shared journey of struggles, joy, sorrow, and compassion. Now, this has tremendous strengthening capabilities like none other!
